Richmond Symphony Presents: A String Quartet Evening of Classical Music

An Evening with David Sedaris
David Sedaris is one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. He is a master of satire and one of today’s most observant writers. Beloved for his personal essays and short stories, David Sedaris is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Barrel Fever, Holidays on Ice, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, and Calypso. His book The Best of Me collects 42 previously published stories and essays. His pieces regularly appear in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.” The two volumes of his diaries, Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977- 2002) and A Carnival of Snackery, Diaries (2003-2020), were New York Times bestsellers. An art book of Sedaris’s diary covers, David Sedaris Diaries: A Visual Compendium, was edited by Jeffrey Jenkins. A Cappella Night
Enjoy a night of a cappella music with local JMU a cappella groups Note-oriety & the BluesTones.
Note-oriety is James Madison University's premier award-winning upper voices a cappella group, founded in 1998 by Kelly Myer-Femenella & Bonnie Estes. Note-oriety is a nationally recognized group, consistently ranked as one of the top upper voices a cappella groups in the country. They have been recognized and praised by many prominent figures in the music industry, including Lake Street Dive, Kelly Clarkson, TLC, and Nicki Minaj. College Magazine named them one of "The 10 Female Groups Running the A Cappella World" in February of 2018.
The BluesTones are also an award-winning upper voices a cappella group from James Madison University. The group was founded by Susie Gaskins and Laurie Wright in February of '99. Beyond JMU, the BluesTones have toured extensively on the East Coast, and performed alongside many other a cappella groups including Virginia Tech's Juxtaposition, University of Virginia's Academical Village People, University of Kentucky's AcoUstiKats, The Vanderbilt Melodores, Florida State University's All-Night Yahtzee, and JMU's very own Exit 245.

X2 Comedy
Back by popular demand, X2 Comedy stages clean-ish comedy shows rated PG-13 featuring local, regional, and nationally touring hilarious comedians. This one features four local comics with a headliner from Chesapeake, Virginia! Host Chris Womack is James Madison University's Funny Professor who performs regularly with X2 Comedy. Lightning Lucas is a rising musical comic and a graduate of X2 Comedy classes. Kyle Remnant is EMU's Band Director, a jack of all trades and master of trombone who performs regularly in X2 Comedy shows. Dawn Davis Womack has performed from east to west coast and is X2 Comedy's founder. She hosts Virginia Is For Laughers, a podcast about all things non-hiking in the Shenandoah Valley. Headliner Vernard "The Laugh Therapist" Hines, has performed all over the world at numerous comedy clubs such as FunnyBone and Cozzy's Comedy Club, colleges, corporate events, churches and veterans organizations. He’s a retired 20-year army veteran battling PTSD, motivational speaker, host, and radio personality. He delivers a healthy dose of comedy that fills your heart with laughter and your soul with joy. A natural-born performer, his style of comedy blends Faith, Family, and Mental Health Awareness. For him, "The pleasure of performing comes from forming a connection with my audience and providing a memorably entertaining experience." He also hosts a podcast called P.T.S.D.
